Formosan sika deer (scientific name: Cervus Nippon taiouanus, English name: Formosan sika deer), deer family, herbivorous animal, is a subspecies endemic to Taiwan. Its wild populations had already become extinct around 1969. Currently, the wild populations in Kenting National Park and Green Island come from artificial restoration and release, which is a successful case of reintroduction. (cite from Wikipedia)
There are many reasons for the extinction of animals, in addition to environmental damage, one of the main sources is the hunting behavior caused by human demand leading to an endangered species crisis. However, this crisis has also resulted in recovering a considerable number (almost over 2,000 amounts) due to the efforts of Taiwan's restoration plan, to let Formosan sika deer can achieve sufficient population effect for natural restoration.
