The Asian University Museum of Modern Art and the GSIEDA (GLOBAL SUSTAINABLE INNOVATION & EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION) jointly signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on December 28, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. in the Ando Lecture Hall of the Asian University Museum of Modern Art. All parties agreed to organize, plan, and execute a series of educational activities aimed at promoting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 2050 zero-carbon target. The collaboration is aimed at fulfilling social responsibilities and addressing environmental, economic, and social issues.
President of Asian University, Chai Chin-Fa, mentioned that sustainability has been a core element of the university's mission since its inception. The university has been actively engaged in energy-saving and carbon-reduction initiatives and educational activities in collaboration with companies like Delta Electronics and Taiwan Cement. This year, Asian University's sustainability report received third-party verification from SGS Taiwan Inspection Technology Company. In recent years, the university has integrated the 17 SDGs into its overall operations, incorporated SDGs into curriculum design, and introduced interdisciplinary courses under the theme of "Net Zero Emissions" to nurture talent in the field of sustainable development through innovative teaching and research.
Chairman of GSIEDA, Chuang Yuan-Yuan, noted that the Asian University Museum of Modern Art had previously collaborated with the Delta Electronics Education Foundation to organize the "Earth's Pulse: Ecology and Art Special Exhibition" in line with the SDGs, demonstrating the intersection of art and environmental awareness. In this collaboration, both parties aim to design creative educational programs that allow the next generation to explore ecological sustainability from the perspectives of art, architecture, nature, and humanities.
Pan Fan, the museum director, emphasized that in response to the trend of museums as public spaces closely connected to society, the Asian University Museum of Modern Art has been planning exhibitions in recent years that address social and technological issues to enhance its public relevance. Since 2015, with sponsorship from Taiwan Applied Materials Inc., the museum has collaborated on long-term camp activities focused on fostering artistic aesthetics among high school students, receiving enthusiastic responses every year. This collaboration serves as a model example of cooperation between businesses and cultural institutions in promoting aesthetic education.
Thanks to the introduction by Chairman Chuang Yuan-yuan of GSIEDA, and witnessed by architects including Professor Li Yuan-Rong, Li Sheng-Ming, Wu Ya-ping, Ho Kun-fang, Pan Rong-Jie, and Lai Hui-zhen, the two parties signed the cooperation MOU, establishing a partnership. To achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and instill sustainability concepts in the younger generation, the collaboration aims to enhance environmental and social awareness among the public. By utilizing natural, social, and museum resources and combining the power of art and resources, they believe they can develop innovative and creative educational activities.
